THE FREECITY NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM - 2009
FREECITYsupershop Malibu, CA
Inspired by the Natural History Museum in NYC, the FREECITY N.H.M. is an homage to the unsung heroes and all of the artists who have created a place that celebrates and documents the greatest feats of mankind, the natural phenomena of the universe and beyond, the ice breakers, and the adventurers in the explorations of life. Using dioramas to show us habitats of everything that lives in the natural world - of course, we had to find a way to make our own. The challenge being, to make it as authentic as ones found in a Natural History Museum.

MASTERPRINT INVITE - 22 PRINTS
THE FREECITY N.H.M. BORN 2009. FREECITYsupershop Malibu, CA
The INVITE, inspired by playbills and poster art of the 60s and 70s, historically has been the most difficult print to achieve. A marker of time, of our abilities, at the time it was first actualized - evolving year after year in graphics, materials, fabrics, washes, and paint. It is the ultimate souvenir "take-away" that encapsulates the experience, nostalgia, that is as good as the installation itself.
Taking an extremely complicated print, in this case using 22 screens, hand throwing on-screen mixed gradients begs the question - how many of these come out as intended - with all its beauty and soul intact? A seemingly simple "garage print" brought to its highest potential. We do it because it is hard to do - the stakes are high, and it's NOT practical... but when it works, its the greatest thing on earth, and it's worth it every time.
